Vespertine Poster

This is the promotional poster for the Vespertine album. It’s very easy to find on eBay and is relatively inexpensive. Love that swan dress.

Drawing Restraint 9 CD

July 7, 2008 by joesmiley

Drawing Restraint 9 is one of my least favorite Björk release. However, it is a film soundtrack so you can’t really judge it on the same merits as an album. But that doesn’t make me want to listen to it any more. The film (also titled Drawing Restraint 9) is an art piece by Matthew Barney. Unfortunately, I can’t really offer any insights into the movie since I have not seen it. Even though I’m not so into this release, Björk’s use of brass in the soundtrack inspired her to develop the idea on Volta, which I think turned out very well. One of the tracks on DR9 is actually an early version of the song Vertebrae By Vertebrae (which later appeared on Volta) but without the drums and vocals.Released in 2005 by One Little Indian.

Track List:

01. Gratitude
02. Pearl
03. Ambergris March

05. Hunter Vessel
06. Shimenawa
07. Vessel Shimenawa

Who Is It Promo 12″ Single

June 9, 2008 by joesmiley

This is a white label promo 12″ single for the song Who Is It from the album Medulla. It contains an awesome remix of the song which has great instrumentation, unlike the original version in which all the music is made by human voices (just like every other song on the album). The b-side is a remix of Where Is The Line, another song from Medulla. Where Is The Line was remixed by Fanômas, one of Mike Patton’s many projects. Patton performed vocals on the track as well as one other from the album, I think. Being a white label promo, it was shipped to me when I purchased it in just a blank inner record sleeve. I later bought a blank white jacket for the record and wrote the track names on it myself. 2004 One Little Indian.

Track List:

Side A:
01. Who Is It (Vitalic Mix)

Side B:
01. Where Is The Line (Fantômas Mix)

Volta 2xLP

May 12, 2008 by joesmiley

This is Volta, Björk’s 6th studio album, released in 2007 by One Little Indian. The packaging for this LP is incredible… or annoying if you actually want to open it. The figure on the front is actually a sticker which is meant to be removed so you can open up the flaps to get to the inside. Upon opening their LPs for the first time, some fans found that the sticker rips easily, or loses it’s stickiness after a while and will no longer hold the flaps shut. An alternative way to open the box is to unfold the flaps at the top and slide the contents out (as pictured below). While this method keeps the sticker intact, it is still annoying to do and it can wrinkle the box. Anyway, what’s inside this mystery box? This record has been out for just over a year so most Björk fans already know, but in case you’re new, 5 “Russian Doll” style folders, each with a different flame letter pic, house 2 180 gram heavyweight LPs. The packaging as definitely beautiful and original, although annoying to deal with. At least the music on the inside is worth the trouble.

Track List:

Side A:
01. Earth Intruders
02. Wanderlust

Side B:
01. The Dull Flame Of Desire
02. Innocence

Side C:
01. I See Who You Are
02. Vertebrae By Vertebrae
03. Pneumonia

Side D:
01. Hope
02. Declare Independence
03. My Juvenile

Post Poster

May 5, 2008 by joesmiley

I have purchased quite a few Björk posters/prints over the past year, and this print, featuring artwork from the album Post, was the most difficult to find. It took months of searching on eBay but I finally came across one, and was very happy to do so.

Isobel/Hyperballad 12″ Single

April 28, 2008 by joesmiley

The Isobel/Hyperballad 12″ single is part of a series of 5 UK singles that were released by One Little Indian in 1997 during the Post era. For whatever reason, the singles are listed on the bjork.com discography as part of the Possibly Maybe singles, even though (a remix of) the song only appears on one of the singles. Anyway, as you can see, the packaging and art for this single (as well as the other 4) is very simple. All the info and track listing is on the front along with the bar code. The back is blank. The embossed Björk logo at the top right is pretty cool, but overall it’s very minimalistic.

Track List:

Side A:
Isobel’s Lonely Heart (Goldie Remix)

Side AA:
Hyperballad (Robin Hood Riding Through The Glen Mix)

Greatest Hits - Volumen 1993 - 2003 DVD

April 21, 2008 by joesmiley

Volumen is Björk’s collection of videos featuring wonderful visuals by the likes of Chris Cunningham, Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. I believe there have been a few versions of Volumen over the years, with each new version being updated with new videos. This is the 2003 edition (actually, it was released in 2002 by One Little Indian US) which was released during the post-Vespertine Greates Hits cycle of releases. It contains every Björk video from 1993 to 2003. All of the videos are in regular stereo except for the Vespertine videos which were in both stereo and 5.1 surround (Vespertine having been the only Björk album to be mixed in 5.1 surround at the time). This DVD collection became pretty much obsolete with the release of Surrounded, a box set with every Björk album on a Dual-Disc. One side of the disc is the CD, the other side of the disc is a DVD which has the album in 5.1 surround and all the videos from that album. So Surrounded not only has all of the videos from Volumen, but also the videos that were produced for Medulla as well.

Track List:
01. Human Behaviour
02. Venus As A Boy
03. Play Dead
04. Big Time Sensuality
05. Violently Happy
06. Army Of Me
07. Isobel
08. It’s Oh So Quiet
09. Hyperballad
10. Possibly Maybe
11. I Miss You
12. Joga
13. Bachelorette
14. Hunter
15. Alarm Call
16. All Is Full Of Love
17. Hidden Place
18. Pagan Poetry
19. Cocoon
20. It’s In Our Hands
21. Nature Is Ancient
